Martin Electric was retained by BBL Construction to assist in the project development, design, and build of a 60-unit, independent senior living facility for first time developer, Renssco Development Corp. In working with the client, it was clear that the project vision for The Kensey on Elliot was all about providing a quality and unique residence to an active, 50+ community. With other luxury adult communities abundant throughout the Capital Region, it was also important for the project team to develop a unique facility that differentiated itself from the competition.

In working with the client, it was clear that the project vision for The Kensey on Elliot was all about providing a quality and unique residence to an active, 50+ community. With other luxury adult communities abundant throughout the Capital Region, it was also important for the project team to develop a unique facility that differentiated itself from the competition. Through our market research, we came up with two main areas of electrical focus in achieving the customer’s overall goal: Lighting and Security.
Research shows that there is a close relationship between lighting and quality of life, particularly with regards to the 50+ demographic. We worked closely with our lighting suppliers to come up with a lighting design that would illuminate the residence with functionality and aesthetics in mind. All too often, renters are left to supply their own lighting – floor lamps, table lamps, etc. At The Kensey on Elliot, residence need no supplemental lighting, as all the units are complete with LED lighting with the added feature of dimmable switches.
Creating a safe and secure environment was a key objective for not only the project team but also our customer’s target market of renters. Martin Electric purposed upgraded apartment features, such as video intercom systems and generator back-up which were uncommon features in the multifamily industry. Residents at The Kensey on Elliot have the comfort of knowing who is at the door and when disaster strikes and there is a loss of power, they won’t be left out in the dark.
Within 9 months, Martin Electric was able to perform a complete ground- up electrical installation of a 72,000 square foot apartment complex which included underground utilities, power and distribution, emergency power, interior and exterior lighting, fire alarm, security, and communications.
